Ochsner Health System, a not-for-profit healthcare delivery system serving the New Orleans area, was dissatisfied with the appearance of its admissions package. Gary Hattier, the Ochsner I.S. project analyst responsible for ADT forms administration, explained, “We needed to improve our consistency and efficiency.” That’s when Ochsner began considering forms automation software - no small step for an organization that spends a considerable amount on pre-printed forms each year. Ochsner chose PatientWorks, the forms automation software. This software streamlines paperwork by eliminating pre-printed forms. PatientWorks merges patient data onto an electronic form and then automatically distributes the needed number of copies to the designated printers, as well as e-mail, fax and PDF documents or other output devices throughout the organization.
Before Cleveland Clinic Florida (CCF) switched to PatientWorks, their forms printing process was inefficient and unstable. They utilized a solution that downloaded all of their forms, as PCL macros, to laser printers. The data was then merged and printed through Siemens. "The download process was very time consuming and did not always work," says Tom Mooney, IT Manager. "We were constantly running into revision problems with the wrong form being printed." Finally, as CCF added more and more forms to their solution, the costly flash memory requirements for all of their printers also grew. CCF began investigating alternatives and found PatientWorks superior to the competition. They decided to switch to PatientWorks after a successful trial period.
Good Samaritan Hospital (GSH) of Vincennes, Indiana, a 260-bed facility serving southwestern Indiana and southeastern Illinois, has been a PatientWorks customer for over five years. They selected the PatientWorks solution to replace their existing in-house application that utilized custom queries on QuadraMed Affinity and Barcode Blaster thermal printers.
Like many healthcare facilities, CoxHealth was fighting an uphill battle with a manual process for patient identification, insurance information and signature capture. It was increasingly labor intensive, error prone, untimely and expensive. What they needed was a system that would capture this critical patient data efficiently and accurately, and then distribute it to the right department at the right time in the right format.
